About Us

Stearns Custom Builders, Inc. is a family owned and operated company with over 30
years of experience in building and remodeling on Pine Island and in the Lee County
Area. We are proud to call ourselves a “Hometown Builder”. At Stearns Custom
Builders, Inc. we take pride in the craftsmanship that goes into all of our projects. Our reputation is built on the quality of work put into every job we have completed over the past many years.

Family History

Our family has over 100 years of experience in residential and commercial construction in Florida. It all started four generations ago in the early 1900’s on the east coast of Florida with Derrick’s great grandfather Earnest Stearns building homes in the Daytona Beach area. Next was “Grandpa Stearns” who became a tile and carpet contractor after he came home from World War II. Stearns Tile and Carpet was a well known and respected business for almost 50 years before “Grandpa Stearns” decided to retire.
Scott Stearns was the next to establish himself as a well known and respected craftsman. In the late 1970’s he began working here on Pine Island, the outer islands, and other parts of Lee County. Scott has over 30 years of experience in building and remodeling homes here is Southwest Florida.
In 2004 the father-son team of Scott and Derrick Stearns started with the change from R. S. Stearns Carpentry to the name you now know us by, Stearns Custom Builders, Inc. After graduating from the University of Central Florida in 2004, Derrick began the process of obtaining his contractors license. In November of 2004 he was registered with the state of Florida as a Certified Residential Contractor and was living and working at home on Pine Island. In 2007 Derrick obtained his Certified General Contractors license so Stearns Custom Builders, Inc. could complete commercial projects as well.

We are a “Hands-On” builder. We establish and maintain a personal relationship with our clients from concept to completion. Job site cleanliness is a major concern of ours and we make sure all jobs are clean at the end of each day, not just at completion of project. Whether it is a remodel or a new home, we consider it your home not just a job site. We are willing to take the time and put forth the effort to ensure our customers have a pleasurable experience while building or having work done on their home.
